Story Scene: 9-9-26
"Why are you actually typing out each word instead of letting auto spell help you out?" Nikki says.
"Because it's her birthday," Meadow says in a matter of fact tone. "I want to be the one saying it and taking the time to write her something. Not having my phone do all the work."
"What's the difference?" Nikki stops beside the couch to fix her sock from falling off her foot.
"It's me showing I care." Meadow turns to her friend. "I'm not in a rush that I can't spell out a message. I fear no one will know how to spell in the future because of auto correct or auto spell."
"The word is still there for us to see."
"But who actually reads and pays attention to it anymore when the phone is trying to auto-fill our whole message? It makes it so that all we have to do is check send."
"I hear you. Especially for the younger generation."
"Our generation too. We don't need to go backwards and not remember how to spell at 40."
"Alright, alright! Send your message so we can get ready and go." Nikki starts to pace around.
Meadow takes another minute and sends a short paragraph to her friend. "I need to bring back mailing cards to friends. Actually go to the store and buy a card."
"That was the original auto spell if you think about it," Nikki says with a laugh.
"Don't ruin it. And no, because my mom always still wrote a message in that card." Meadow gets up from the couch.
"Don't hate. I'm right."
Meadow waves her off.
